About the Boeing Preferred Partnership Option

What is Boeing’s Preferred Partnership option?

First introduced in Puget Sound in 2015, Preferred Partnership is a new version of each of Boeing’s medical plans – the Advantage+ health plan, the Traditional Medical Plan, and the Select Network Plan. The Providence-Swedish version of these plans features Providence-Swedish Health Alliance as the exclusive network. This new arrangement is aimed at providing employees with more personal support, more coordinated care and an enhanced level of service – all at a more affordable cost. We are excited to work with you to help keep you and your family healthy and ensure that you have access to the care that you need.

Who’s eligible for the Preferred Partnership option?

The Preferred Partnership option is available to Puget Sound-region Boeing nonunion employees, employees represented by the SPEEA Pilot/Instructors Unit (SPIU) employees represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers Power Plant (IUOE 286 PP), and covered dependents of these groups. Retirees of the groups listed above and their dependents are also eligible if not covered by Medicare; those covered by Medicare are not eligible for the Preferred Partnership options.

How does the Preferred Partnership option work?

The Providence-Swedish Health Alliance version of each of Boeing’s plans has a broad network provided by Providence-Swedish Health Alliance – including primary care physicians, specialists, urgent care facilities and hospitals located throughout the Puget Sound area. Generally, to receive in-network benefits, you and your family need to use Providence-Swedish Health Alliance providers and facilities.

Emergency care is covered at the in-network level, whether you’re in Puget Sound or traveling outside the Puget Sound area, even if the provider is not in the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance.

In rare situations where highly specialized services are not available within the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance – e.g. transplants – a process is in place to ensure that services are available from an appropriate non-network provider, and paid at the in-network rate.

If you receive non-emergency medical services from providers not in the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance when those services are available from our providers, those services would be covered at the non-network level in the Traditional Medical Plan and the Advantage+ health plan. Non-emergency, non-network services are not covered in the Select Network Plan.

What are the advantages of choosing the Preferred Partnership option?

  • Lower paycheck contributions for the Traditional Medical Plan and Select Network plan for employees.
  • Increased company contributions to the Health Savings Account for eligible employees participating in the Advantage+ health plan.
  • No cost for seeing network PCPs (Advantage+ health plan participants must first satisfy the annual deductible).
  • No cost for generic drugs (Advantage+ health plan participants must first satisfy the annual deductible when applicable).
  • No cost for seeking care through Express Care Virtual: web-based health care visits on your smartphone, tablet, or computer (Advantage+ health plan participants must first satisfy the annual deductible when applicable).
  • Quicker access to network primary care providers (PCPs) and specialists, and more after-hours care availability.
  • More personalized and coordinated care, especially for individuals with complex medical situations such as diabetes or a heart condition.
  • Greater use of electronic messaging with providers, and expanded opportunity to use electronic medical records.

What is an Express Care virtual visit?

Express Care Virtual allows you to have a live video visit with a Providence/Swedish provider from your computer, smartphone, or tablet. He or she can diagnose non-emergency medical concerns and provide a diagnosis and treatment plan, including a prescription if needed. Live visits are covered at no cost for those enrolled in the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance (Advantage+ health plan participants must first satisfy the annual deductible). Virtual visits are convenient, easy to use, and flexible. Connect with a provider on your schedule, wherever you have internet access. No appointment needed and wait times average less than five minutes. Set up your free Express Care Virtual account today. For Swedish patients: virtual.swedish.org; For Providence patients: virtual.providence.org.

What about other services offered through Boeing’s Well Being programs? Will I still have access to those programs?

Visit our Providers page or call our Boeing Concierge Call Center at 1-855-654-PSHA to see if your provider is in the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance network.

I use a provider whose offices are located at one of the Providence or Swedish facilities, but I can't find that provider listed on this website. Why?

Some providers are not part of the Preferred Partnership agreement, even though their offices are located at a Providence-Swedish Health Alliance facility. To be sure the provider you use is part of the Preferred Partnership network, visit our Providers page or call our Boeing Concierge Call Center at 1-855-654-PSHA

Do you have pediatricians in the Preferred Partnership option through Providence-Swedish Health Alliance?

Yes, in addition to the pediatricians in our network, we also offer care for all ages through family medicine physicians. Visit our Providers page, for a complete listing of pediatricians and pediatric specialists.

Do I need to get a referral from my primary care doctor to see a specialist?

You do not need a referral from your primary care physician to see a specialist, although you might wish to receive a recommendation for a specialist from your physician. To get in-network benefits, the specialist you see needs to be in the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance network.

It looks like one of the doctors I would like to see isn’t accepting new patients. What can I do?

Call our concierge team at 1-855-654-PSHA if you have any questions about physicians accepting new patients. The team can also call the physician’s office directly to enquire.

Selecting a Primary Care Provider

Do I need to select a primary care provider (PCP)?

Experts agree on the importance of selecting a primary care provider (PCP) — someone who knows your medical history, ensures better coordination of care and works with you to manage your health. You can choose (or change) your PCP at any time during the year. If you don’t choose a PCP during annual enrollment, the Providence-Swedish Health Alliance may provide an interim PCP based on where you live. If you have a PCP that you would like to elect, or need help with researching and learning more about PCPs that fit your needs, please call your Boeing Concierge Call Center at 1-855-654-PSHA

I did not select a primary care provider (PCP) during annual enrollment, but received a letter in the mail encouraging me to select one. What do I do now?

A PCP acts as your health care advocate to oversee your preventive and general care while also working as a central point to help coordinate care and services with specialists when needed. At its core, a PCP helps you get healthy and stay healthy. Although electing a PCP is not required, it is encouraged for these reasons.

If you have a PCP that you would like to elect, or need help with researching and learning more about PCPs that fit your needs, please call our Boeing Concierge Call Center at 1-855-654-PSHA. You can also visit our Providers to learn more about the providers who are located near your home, work or anywhere else.
